Robert Reed Dimmitt--The Dancing Bear from USair, loving husband of Beverly Janet Dimmitt (nee Taylor)of 69 years, father of Reed (Pam) Dimmitt, Steve (Beth) Dimmitt, David (Jackie) Dimmitt; Grandfather of Teppy Dimmitt, Melissa Dimmitt,Nick Dimmitt, Zoe Dimmitt and Maddie dimmitt-- passed away in his sleep on August 11,2024.
Bob was born and raised in Goodland,Kansas on May 1,1931. An only child to Marie and V.O. Dimmitt, he was the object of much doting by a team of aunts and uncles. Bob graduated from Sherman Community high School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S.A.F. Upon an honerable discharge in September 1954, he returned home to Goodland where saw Beverly Taylor, a fellow Goodland High School alum. They began dating and were married 3 months later on December 31, 1954. His passion for airplanes from his time in the USAF lead him to begin working for Lockheed in Georgia in 1956. He then went on towork for Lake Central Airlines and would stay in the commercial airline industry until his retirement in 1989.
He was a stranger to none and a friend to all. When he encountered a new person, he would play his own game of "6 degrees of separation" trying to to connect that person to someone he knew. More times than not, he would be successful. In meeting someone new he would breakout one of his well-worn jokes. Those that knew bob well could recite the punchline before he could! He was a good and faithfull servant in the Community of Christ Church, f/k/a Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, being a lay minister, for decades. Instead of a traditional funeral service, his family has elected for a Celebration of Life Service sometime in the future. We will announce that date once it is formalizd. The greatest gifts the family have received have been the outpouring of love through
phone calls, texts, home visits, and social media posts. For those wishing to remember him through a donation instead of flowers, please consider sending a gift Building Bonds Healthcare to help other folk in need. This service was a Godsend to Bob and Beverly over the last few years of his life.
